I've noticed lots of people seem to think they need to get rid of all the plants they don't want, then plant what they do want. As you've pointed out, simply planting trees in the gorse or allowing them to start from seeds will eventually shade out gorse and bracken. These 2 plants aren't a problem here in Ohio, but we have our own problem plants, many of which die out as trees grow and cast shade.
